About Bethel Baptist Historical
Bethel Baptist Church in Birmingham is a historic Baptist congregation with contemporary and traditional worship. Organized on March 27, 1904, under Reverend P. M. Johnson, the church has served multiple generations in North Birmingham. Reverend Milton Sears was pastor from 1916 to 1938, and during the Fred L. Shuttlesworth pastorate the church was bombed three times, yet worship services continued. Bethel describes its vision as being a “ministry of excellence” dedicated to reaching many generations. The church also offers children’s ministry and a youth group, with a ground-breaking ceremony for a new edifice held in August 1995.
