Charismatic Churches

Charismatic churches emphasize the active work of the Holy Spirit and the continuation of spiritual gifts such as tongues, prophecy, and healing. Unlike classical Pentecostalism, the Charismatic movement emerged within mainline denominations before spawning independent churches.

Founded: Charismatic renewal movement began in the 1960s within mainline Protestant and Catholic churches

Governance: Varies widely (often apostolic or congregational) — No uniform governance. Independent charismatic churches may be led by an apostle or senior pastor with significant authority. Some belong to networks or associations for accountability and fellowship.
