Churches of Christ seek to restore New Testament Christianity by following only what is explicitly taught in Scripture. They are known for a cappella worship, weekly communion, and a non-denominational identity rooted in the Restoration Movement.

Founded: Early 1800s in America through the Stone-Campbell Restoration Movement

Governance: Congregational with elder leadership — Each congregation is fully autonomous with no denominational headquarters. Local churches are led by a plurality of elders (also called shepherds) and served by deacons.
