Seventh-day Adventist Churches

Seventh-day Adventists observe Saturday (the seventh day) as the Sabbath, emphasize the imminent second coming of Christ, and promote holistic health. The denomination is known for its health institutions, educational system, and global humanitarian work.

Founded: Formally organized in 1863 in Battle Creek, Michigan, with roots in the Millerite movement of the 1840s

Governance: Representative (hierarchical) — Four levels of organization: local church, local conference, union conference, and the General Conference (world headquarters). Pastors are employed by the conference, not the local church.
