United Methodist Churches

The United Methodist Church (UMC) is one of the largest mainline Protestant denominations in America, formed from the merger of the Methodist Church and the Evangelical United Brethren in 1968. It carries forward the Wesleyan tradition of combining personal piety with social action.

Governance: Connectional (episcopal) — Governed by the General Conference (legislative body), with bishops overseeing annual conferences. Pastors are appointed to churches by the bishop and cabinet.
