About Grace United Methodist Church
Grace United Methodist Church has deep roots on Joliet’s west side, beginning in 1893 when Ottawa Street Methodist Episcopal Church helped start Grace Chapel. The congregation moved its chapel building to Oakland Avenue and Moran Street in 1918, then relocated to its current site in 1958 as it built a larger facility. Its sanctuary was completed in 1963, the same year the church took the name Grace United Methodist Church. In 1996, Grace and Ottawa Street United Methodist Churches merged and began worshiping as one congregation. The church also includes a children’s ministry and Grace Childcare Center, a state-licensed facility serving Joliet since 1977.
