About International Institute Lacasa
International Institute/LaCasa is a community organization founded in 1919 to support immigrant and Latino families in the Gary and East Chicago area. Originally established as a department of the YWCA to help immigrant women adjust to American life, it became an independent agency in 1934 and has since grown into a comprehensive service provider. The organization offers immigration counseling, naturalization assistance, English-as-a-Second Language classes, adult education, youth leadership development, and family support services. Operating as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation guided by a volunteer Board of Directors, International Institute/LaCasa remains committed to improving the quality of life and creating opportunities for low-income immigrant and Latino communities through its programs and collaborative partnerships.
