About First Baptist Church
First Baptist Church in Evansville has welcomed people to their corner location since 1921, serving as a spiritual home for followers of Jesus Christ in the community. The church is deeply committed to both worship and service, with an emphasis on creating invitational and caring ministries while maintaining the Bible as their guide. Members actively engage in numerous community outreach programs, including the Little Dresses for Africa initiative, Operation Christmas Child, and regular grocery and postal assistance for residents of the Towers Apartments downtown—a service that has continued since 1956. The congregation also collects donations for the Evansville Rescue Mission and partners with Indian Creek Baptist Camp to create spaces for spiritual growth and connection. Led by Pastor Cliff Herring and Minister Travis Johnson, the church fosters an environment where individual differences are acknowledged and embraced, and where members are encouraged to use their spiritual gifts in service to others and to share God's love throughout the world.
