About St Matthew Catholic Church
St. Matthew Catholic Church, founded in 1857 in Mount Vernon, Indiana, has served the community for over 165 years with deep spiritual roots and active engagement in parish life. The present church building was constructed in 1879 and features remarkable historical treasures, including 14 Holy Helpers stained glass windows shipped from Germany in the 1920s and a first-class relic of St. Pantaleon. Today, the parish operates as a welcoming community offering inspirational worship, a K-5 school serving families of all faiths, and diverse ministry opportunities ranging from spiritual growth to service and community outreach. St. Matthew emphasizes the Catholic call to share time, talent, and treasure with others, supporting ministries including St. Vincent de Paul and various volunteer groups. The parish invites visitors to experience its rich tradition of celebrating God's love through sacraments, prayer, and active participation in faith community.
