About Diocese Of Alexandria
The Diocese of Alexandria, established by Pope Pius IX on July 29, 1853, serves the Catholic community across northern Louisiana from its See City. Originally created to minister to approximately 20,000 Catholics spread throughout the region with only five priests and five churches, the diocese has grown significantly over nearly 170 years under the leadership of thirteen bishops. The current bishop, Robert W. Marshall, Jr., was ordained to the episcopacy and installed in August 2020. The diocese has a rich tradition of building programs, priestly education, and community service that reflect the Catholic faith's commitment to spiritual growth and pastoral care in Louisiana.
