About Sacred Heart Catholic Church
Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church has served the Baton Rouge community since 1924, becoming a canonical parish in 1928 and establishing the first parochial school in the city the following year. The magnificent church building, opened in 1942, was designed by Fr. Dominic Blasco after the Cathedral in Cefalu, Sicily, and features stunning Byzantine and Roman architecture complemented by the larger-than-life murals of Fr. Dom Gregory deWit. Today, the parish community of over 900 families gathers for worship and engages in various ministries including Bible studies, prayer challenges, volunteer opportunities, and community service initiatives. Sacred Heart welcomes visitors to experience its rich spiritual legacy and participate in the vibrant Catholic Christian community that continues to serve and support the faithful in Baton Rouge.
