About St Alexander Nevsky Orthodox Church
St. Alexander Nevsky Orthodox Church is a parish of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, located in Richmond, Maine, and welcomes people of all ethnic backgrounds seeking to experience Christianity's ancient teachings and sacraments. The congregation cherishes the spiritual and cultural traditions brought by Russian émigrés to the Kennebec Valley, with services conducted in both English and Church Slavonic. Founded in 1953 as the chapel of the Russkii Corpus, the parish grew from a significant community of Russians, Ukrainians, Belorussians, and other Orthodox Slavs who were displaced by the Bolshevik Revolution and World War II and sought to rebuild their cultural and spiritual life in Maine's peaceful countryside. Today the parish includes both American converts to Orthodoxy, descendants of the founding families, and new immigrants from Russia, Ukraine, and other countries. Visitors are invited to experience the rich liturgical life and historical heritage of this Orthodox community.
