About Vedanta Center Of Greater

The Vedanta Center of Greater Washington, D.C., located in Silver Spring, Maryland, is a branch of the Ramakrishna Order of India dedicated to spiritual liberation and the welfare of the world. Founded in 1997, the center draws its inspiration from Swami Vivekananda's visits to America in the 1890s and the ancient wisdom of the Upanishads. Set on 2.5 acres surrounded by woods, the center features a temple with a marble image of Sri Ramakrishna and welcomes all sincere seekers interested in deepening their spiritual lives through the study of Vedanta and the teachings of Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Sarada Devi, and Swami Vivekananda. The center offers Sunday lectures, weeknight classes, worship and meditation, karma yoga sessions, and social service programs under the spiritual leadership of resident monks.

Dress Code: Not specified — please contact the church directly. Service Format: The temple opens at 5:00 AM for morning meditation with Mangal Arati followed by self-guided meditation; evening Arati occurs at 6:30 PM with meditation, and daily Puja is at 7:45 AM. Visitor Tips: The center welcomes all sincere seekers and remains open from 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM during which visitors are welcome to meditate in the shrine or use the library.
