About Temple Ahavat Achim Office

Temple Ahavat Achim is a profoundly inclusive, egalitarian Conservative synagogue serving the Jews of Cape Ann and the North Shore for over 100 years. Located in downtown Gloucester two blocks from the waterfront, the congregation welcomes members from every Jewish background—secular, Reform, Conservative, Orthodox, Reconstructionist, and Renewal—as well as interfaith families. Services are joyful, warm, and welcoming with no dress code or seating hierarchy, featuring lay leaders and congregants in various roles. The community gathers for Shabbat morning services on Saturdays, monthly musical Kabbalat Shabbat celebrations, and Sunday morning minyan, along with Torah study, religious school, and numerous social and learning programs.

Dress Code: There is no dress code. Service Format: Shabbat morning services feature singing, prayer, and learning with congregants leading parts of the service, reading Torah and Haftarah, and occasionally giving a d'var Torah. Services are followed by a light Kiddush and sometimes a full lunch. Monthly musical Kabbalat Shabbat in the Round features joyful singing with the congregation's own band and chorus. Visitor Tips: Children of all ages are warmly welcomed; the congregation typically has children's books and quiet toys available, and service leaders create an inclusive, low-pressure environment.
