About First Congregational Church
First Congregational Church is a historic Congregational church in Detroit with roots dating to December 25, 1844. The congregation occupied its current site at Forest and Woodward in 1891. Its chapel was completed in 1890 and served as the worship space before the sanctuary was finished, and the building was designed by John Faxon of Boston. The sanctuary includes a Casavant Freres organ installed in 1918. Alongside Sunday worship and Sunday School, the church’s Hospitality Ministry makes the facility available to the public for weddings, funerals, rehearsal space, meetings, and catering.
