About St Mary Catholic Church
St. Mary Catholic Church in Natchez is known as “The Mother Church of Mississippi Catholicism” and as “Mary’s House in Natchez.” Its Catholic community traces its origins to 1682, and the Diocese of Natchez was established in 1837. The former cathedral, Our Lady of Sorrows, was consecrated on September 19, 1886, reflecting the parish’s long place in Mississippi Catholic history. Worship follows the Catholic liturgical tradition, with Sunday Solemn Mass, weekday Masses, and an anticipated Saturday evening Mass. Very Reverend Aaron M. Williams serves as rector.
