About St. George Orthodox Christian Church
St. George Orthodox Christian Church, located at 1505 Avenue G in Kearney, Nebraska, is an Antiochian Orthodox parish with deep historical roots. Founded in 1903 by Arab Christian families who emigrated from Syria and Lebanon in the late 19th century, the church became home to Fr. Nicola Yanney, the first resident Orthodox priest to serve an Arab Christian community west of the Mississippi River. The parish has grown from its ethnic heritage to become a diverse, welcoming community committed to sharing the apostolic faith of the early church. Today, St. George serves Orthodox Christians of all backgrounds and extends a warm invitation to visitors interested in learning more about Orthodox Christianity and experiencing liturgical worship.
