About Ohel Yaacob Congregation
Ohel Yaacob Congregation is a Syrian Jewish synagogue established in 1980 to serve the growing Syrian Jewish community on the Jersey Shore. What began as a small neighborhood minyan in members' yards and garages grew into a thriving congregation that completed construction of its permanent building in 1984. Named in honor of Chief Rabbi Jacob S. Kassin, the congregation has expanded to over 750 members each Shabbat and is known for its welcoming atmosphere, extensive Torah classes, and outstanding rabbinic leadership. The synagogue is dedicated to preserving Syrian Jewish traditions and values while fostering spiritual growth across all generations.
