About Cedar Grove United Methodist Church
Cedar Grove United Methodist Church is one of the oldest churches in Toms River, New Jersey, having served the community continuously since the mid-1800s. The church was formally incorporated on January 10, 1853, as the Methodist Episcopal Church at Cedar Grove, and the current white building stands on the corner of Bay Avenue and Cedar Grove Road. Though small in physical size, the congregation consists of faithful members with deep-rooted ties to the local area, and many families trace their ancestors to the region's earliest residents. In addition to the sanctuary, a fellowship hall accommodates classes, activities, and social gatherings, and the sacred grounds are also home to the Cedar Grove Cemetery, formerly known as the Applegate Cemetery, established around 1800 and containing graves of Revolutionary War soldiers. The church maintains an active presence in the community through various outreach programs and family-centered events, welcoming visitors to join in worship and fellowship.
