About St Elias The Prophet Greek Orthodox Church

St. Elias the Prophet Greek Orthodox Church serves Santa Fe, northern New Mexico, and southern Colorado as a vibrant parish of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Denver. Located in the Eldorado community approximately ten miles southeast of Santa Fe's center at an elevation of 7,090 feet—the highest-altitude Greek Orthodox church in the United States—the parish was established as a mission in 1990. The church building itself, completed in 1993, features a striking Byzantine-style cruciform architecture with a central octagonal dome designed by New Mexico architect Jorge de la Torre. Worship services blend multiple linguistic and cultural traditions, conducted in Greek, English, Spanish, Arabic, Slavonic, and Romanian, reflecting the parish's diverse ethnic composition. Visitors are warmly invited to join the community for Divine Liturgy on Sunday mornings, followed by a fellowship hour, and to explore the church's beautiful iconography and rich spiritual life rooted in the Apostolic tradition.
