About Sisters Of Saint Joseph
The Sisters of Saint Joseph of Philadelphia, with roots tracing back to 17th-century France, represents a vibrant Catholic religious community of over 500 sisters dedicated to incarnating their charism of unioning love. Based in the Chestnut Hill neighborhood of Philadelphia with members serving across twelve states, the congregation has a rich heritage of responding to urgent societal needs, particularly those affecting the poor, marginalized, and vulnerable. Since their arrival in Philadelphia in 1847, the Sisters have ministered in hospitals, schools, orphanages, and community aid services, always embodying their founding spirit to unite neighbor with neighbor and neighbor with God. Today, the congregation continues this tradition through prayer, education, and direct service, while welcoming Associates in Mission and lay partners who share their commitment to spiritual and corporal works of mercy.
