About Sisters of St Joseph

The Sisters of Saint Joseph of Philadelphia is a Catholic congregation with deep historical roots tracing back to 17th-century France, where they were founded on the principle of uniting "neighbor with neighbor and neighbor with God." Since arriving in Philadelphia in 1847, the Sisters have ministered in hospitals, schools, orphanages, and community services throughout the United States. Today, the congregation comprises approximately 500 members who continue their charism of incarnating unioning love and addressing urgent challenges faced by the poor, marginalized, and vulnerable. The Sisters also welcome Associates in Mission—lay partners who share their commitment to spiritual and corporal works of mercy while maintaining their own lifestyles. Rooted in the Catholic tradition and guided by Vatican II's call to return to their founding spirit, they remain dedicated to serving their neighbors and fostering unity with God and all creation.
