About Union Missionary Baptist Church
Union Missionary Baptist Church is a Christ-centered community of faith located in Albany's South End, founded in 1924 when a group gathered in the home of Mrs. Leona Turnage for prayer. The church has served as a beacon of hope for nearly a century, becoming the first church building newly erected in Albany by a Black congregation when it moved to its current location at 3 Morton Avenue in 1962. Under the spiritual leadership of Senior Pastor Rev. Victor E. Covington since 2004, the church emphasizes its mission to know Christ and make Christ known while empowering, equipping, and encouraging its members. Beyond Sunday worship, Union Missionary Baptist offers numerous opportunities for spiritual growth through prayer ministries, Bible study, and various fellowship groups. The church actively serves its community and welcomes visitors to connect with the congregation, worship together, and participate in community service initiatives.
