About Sisters Of Saint Joseph
The Sisters of Saint Joseph of Philadelphia is a Catholic congregation with deep roots tracing back to 17th century France, where they were founded on the principle of uniting "neighbor with neighbor and neighbor with God." Arriving in Philadelphia in 1847, the sisters have served the community for nearly two centuries through education, healthcare, orphan care, and social services across multiple states. Today approximately 500 sisters and 600 associates in mission continue their charism of spiritual and corporal works of mercy, addressing the urgent needs of the poor, marginalized, and vulnerable. The congregation operates from their motherhouse in the Chestnut Hill neighborhood and remains committed to their founding vision of unioning love and solidarity. Visitors and supporters are invited to learn more about their mission and consider joining them as partners in service and prayer.
