About Long Island Cares Inc.
Long Island Cares – The Harry Chapin Regional Food Bank, located in Hauppauge, New York, is a community-focused organization founded in 1980 by singer-songwriter and humanitarian Harry Chapin. Guided by a mission to combat food insecurity and address its root causes across Nassau and Suffolk Counties, the organization distributes over 13 million pounds of food and supplies annually to nearly 400 community partners and operates seven food pantries across Long Island. The organization serves approximately 176,000 Long Islanders each year, including 46,627 seniors and an estimated 71,500 children facing food insecurity. Long Island Cares operates with seven core values—leadership, innovation, collaboration, accountability, respect, empowerment, and stewardship—and welcomes volunteers and donors to join in the effort to ensure no one in the community goes hungry.
