About Sisters Of Saint Joseph

The Sisters of Saint Joseph of Philadelphia is a Catholic congregation with deep historical roots tracing back to seventeenth-century France and an American presence since 1847. Based in the Chestnut Hill neighborhood of Philadelphia with sisters serving in twelve states, the congregation comprises more than 500 members dedicated to their founding charism of unioning love—bringing together neighbor with neighbor and neighbor with God. The Sisters have responded to urgent needs across generations, from nursing wounded soldiers during the Civil War to establishing schools for immigrant families and providing community aid services. Today, they continue their mission of addressing the unmet and critical needs of society, particularly serving the poor, marginalized, and vulnerable through prayer, education, healthcare, and spiritual companionship. Visitors and supporters are invited to join them as partners in mission through prayers, donations, and participation in their ongoing work of mercy and justice.
