About Park Road Baptist Church
Park Road Baptist Church, founded in 1950 in south Charlotte, is a progressive Baptist community committed to social justice, independent thought, and welcoming all people regardless of race, sexual orientation, gender identity, or theological belief. The church emphasizes the freedom to explore faith through questioning and doubt, with a diverse congregation spanning multiple generations. As a historic leader in Charlotte's civil rights movement and advocate for LGBTQIA+ inclusion and women's ordination, Park Road operates from a theology of love rooted in Jesus's command to love God and neighbor with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength. The church maintains active missions ranging from local elementary school partnerships to international connections, believing faith should transform communities and systems through both spiritual growth and practical service.
