About Centenary United Methodist Church
Centenary United Methodist Church, founded in 1772 and inspired by the preaching of Rev. Joseph Pilmore, stands in the heart of historic downtown New Bern, North Carolina. The congregation's current sanctuary was completed in 1904 and has been renovated in 1966 and 2013. Centenary UMC offers three Sunday worship services—a traditional service at 8:30 a.m. in the Chapel, a contemporary service at 9:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary, and a traditional service at 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary—welcoming visitors to experience Christ's love through music, scripture, and fellowship. The church operates as a Lighthouse Congregation and maintains active ministries including youth programs, grief support, United Methodist Women, and community outreach through the Zoe Ministry.

Dress Code: A wide spectrum of attire is worn across the three Sunday services, ranging from casual jeans and slacks to suits and dresses; visitors will not be singled out regardless of what they choose to wear. Service Format: The 8:30 a.m. Chapel service is traditional, the 9:00 a.m. Sanctuary service is contemporary, and the 11:00 a.m. Sanctuary service is traditional; all services include music and scripture-based worship. Visitor Tips: Parking is available on street corners in front of the church, in a lot behind the church accessed from New Street, and in a lot across the street beside the Federal Court House; the church is handicap-accessible with an elevator at the office entrance on New Street and a back entrance on New Street leading directly into the Sanctuary; nursery care is available during the 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. services for infants and preschoolers.
