About First Congregational Church
First Congregational Church of Akron is a Congregational congregation established in 1833, making it Akron's first formally organized church. Located at 292 E. Market Street, the church occupies a distinctive Bedford limestone building completed in 1908, notable for its 100-foot bell and clock tower. The congregation unconditionally affirms all people as it lives out Christ's teaching of inclusive love, welcoming individuals of every race, age, nationality, gender identity, sexual orientation, family circumstance, socio-economic status, and ability. AkronFCC serves the broader community through active ministries including the Feeding Hope Food Pantry, established in 1982 as a Network Partner of the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, and the PB&J Backpacks program that serves elementary students during the school year. The church is proud of its rich musical heritage, including a restored four-manual pipe organ with over 4,000 pipes.
