About First Congregational Church of Akron
First Congregational Church of Akron is a historic Akron congregation established in 1833 as the city’s first formally organized church congregation. The church adopted a resolution in 1960 to join the United Church of Christ and adopted an Open & Affirming Welcome Statement in October 2016. Its current Bedford limestone building was begun in 1908 and first used for worship in 1910. Community care is a visible part of church life, including the Feeding Hope Food Pantry, founded in 1982, and a weekly PB&J Backpack Ministry serving elementary students at Mason Community Learning Center. The church also offers small groups.
