About American Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Diocese
The American Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Diocese, headquartered in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, represents a vibrant community rooted in Carpatho-Rusyn heritage and Orthodox tradition. Founded in 1937 when 37 parishes returned to the ancestral Orthodox faith, the Diocese has grown to encompass 81 parishes across the United States and Canada with approximately 8,500 faithful and 91 priests. The Diocese is canonically under the protection of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople and emphasizes Orthodoxy as a transformative way of life rather than merely a religion. Today the Diocese welcomes people of all ethnic backgrounds, including many converts, and maintains active ministries including Christ the Saviour Seminary, Camp Nazareth for youth formation, and extensive outreach and philanthropic programs throughout North America.
