Albright-Bethune United Methodist Church in State College has roots reaching back to 1915, when an Evangelical Church was formed to minister to college students. Its present story includes the July 1993 yoking of St. John’s United Methodist Church and Bethune Memorial, which had been founded in 1985 as United Black Fellowship Church. The church later became Albright-Bethune United Methodist Church, carrying the names of Jacob Albright and Mary McLeod Bethune. Its worship draws strongly on the African American tradition and is open to worshipers of diverse cultures and ethnicities.
