About Grace Episcopal Church
Grace Episcopal Church in downtown Providence traces its roots to 1829, when parishioners from St. John's Episcopal Church established this new parish to serve the growing west side of the city. The congregation purchased and remodeled the old Providence Theatre, and in 1846 commissioned renowned architect Richard Upjohn to design what became the first asymmetrical Gothic Revival Church in America. In 1912, celebrated architect Ralph Adams Cram designed a new chancel, making Grace Church the only Upjohn-Cram church in the world. Today, Grace Church is a vibrant and diverse urban parish that welcomes visitors for traditional Episcopal worship services, free music programs including Thursday noon concerts, and weekday open doors from 11am to 2pm. The church offers live-streamed Sunday services and maintains an active role in downtown Providence's continued renewal and spiritual life.
