Officially organized in 1846 with 49 members, the congregation has undergone significant transitions, including a devastating fire in 1983 that destroyed the sanctuary, followed by a complete rebuild and rededication in 1986. The church is known for thoughtful and engaging worship enhanced by exceptional music, featuring a restored 19th-century tracker organ—the third largest of its kind in Virginia. The congregation describes itself as welcoming and warm, having emerged from recent denominational challenges as a stronger, more hopeful community.
