About St George Orthodox Cathedral
St. George Orthodox Cathedral has served the Charleston, West Virginia community since 1892, when a small group of immigrants first gathered for worship on Kanawha Boulevard. As a Cathedral of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America, it serves as the primary center of the Diocese of Charleston, Oakland, and the Mid-Atlantic. The congregation, which includes multi-ethnic families from the greater Appalachian region, is devoted to preserving the ancient Orthodox Christian faith—the oldest Christian tradition, unchanged since the time of Christ. The Cathedral offers dynamic services throughout the week, including Great Vespers on Saturday evenings and the Divine Liturgy on Sunday mornings, along with daily prayer services. Visitors are warmly invited to experience Orthodox Christianity more deeply through the Cathedral's ministries serving all ages, as the community echoes the apostolic invitation: "Come and see."
