About Sisters Of Saint Joseph
The Sisters of Saint Joseph of Philadelphia is a Catholic religious congregation with deep roots tracing back to 17th-century France, now headquartered in the Chestnut Hill neighborhood of Philadelphia. Founded on the charism of unioning love—bringing neighbor to neighbor and all to God—the congregation has ministered across America since arriving in Philadelphia in 1847, initially serving orphan boys and subsequently expanding into education, healthcare, community aid, and spiritual works. Today, approximately 500 sisters and 600 associates in mission continue this legacy of mercy and service, addressing the urgent challenges facing the poor, marginalized, and vulnerable. The congregation stands committed to their founding vision of spiritual and corporal works of mercy, having evolved over nearly two centuries while maintaining their core mission of uniting God, neighbor, and all creation.
